Aziza Gibson-Hunter
Claudia “Aziza” Gibson-Hunter is a mixed media artist. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she currently resides in Washington, D.C. She combines painting, collage, printmaking, and paper making to create abstract works surrounding narratives of agency, spiritual development, and memory. For the past three years Ms. Gibson-Hunter has explored the relationship between spirituality and flight. Combining personal experiences, Black folktales, and narratives of enslaved people, she has been working to express flight as a spiritual construct. Color, pattern, form, and texture are created utilizing acrylic paint and colored pencil on commercial and hand-made paper. Ms. Hunter has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her work can be found in the permanent collection of Washington D.C. and other noted collections. Her studios are located in Washington D.C.
