Rebecca Denton
Rebecca Denton, BA Hons, career in art began with working as a conceptual illustrator and painter, before discovering an affinity for etching. She established her own studio in North London and became a member of the Southbank Printmakers and Printmakers council.
She has exhibited all over the UK including London’s Bankside Gallery, the Mall Galleries and the Royal Academy with work featuring in collections at London’s V+A, the Scarborough Museum archive and worldwide.
Rebecca’s love of storytelling started with a Performing Arts background and training as an opera singer and the dreamy themes from a tendency to ‘switch off’ from the world around her. Her narrative etchings can be playful, sometimes with a serious context but always hopeful and life-affirming.
Rebecca works from her sketches, of the immediate world around her or the imaginary one. The idea and the image always come first, then the technique. Whether real or magical escapism, serious or whimsical, what ties her work together is the love of light and movement, to capture moments of beauty where the soul of the place can be felt.
“I love it when people connect with the work; perhaps it triggers a childhood memory or allows them to dream of a better world or just dream…”
Rebecca’s work continues to be in high demand globally, with her original prints finding homes across the world from the United States to Australia and many places in between. In addition to her print work she is currently illustrating a children’s book.
