Sally Canzoneri
Sally grew up in Vermont and lives in Washington D.C.
Sally is fascinated by cities because there is so much to see and discover. Many factors determine the physical structure of a city and what people and events we see there. Her work is about telling these stories using visual media.
She uses digital images to create works on and off paper. Generally, these are her own photos, but she uses scanned images of historic photos for some pieces. Much of her work has focused on the built environment of Washington and historic changes in the city.
The corner in this piece (6th & H Streets NE) is located in a part of D.C. that was the center of the 1968 riots and has seen significant gentrification in recent years. In 1925, the corner was occupied by the furniture and hauling business of Sam Madeoy. In 2016, a new building was constructed there, though the row houses along 6th Street remain.
