Zahra Gulraiz
World travelled artist Zahra Gulraiz describes her work as a contemporary take on traditional Arabic Calligraphy. She uses solid, vivid colours against the curves and edges of calligraphy to create an illusion of abstract art. Each painting signifies a certain theme or meaning, even though on the surface to the untrained eye it is a bright abstract painting.
The purpose of art is to make you rethink everything that is normal or familiar. My art works in the same vein as I use the beauty of calligraphy in an unconventional and modernized manner.
The combination of bright colours and slogans is reminiscent of Pop Art but the inclusion of Arabic lettering renders it both ancient and contemporary. Originally from Warwickshire, Zahra studied Fine Art in Ontario, Canada before developing her signature bold style while living in Dubai. Since founding her style she has gained world wide attention and has been commissioned for many exclusive projects.
She uses Arabic calligraphy in her own bold and distinctive style to spread positive energy. Along with her striking use of colours, she focuses around quotes that uplift and inspire. By combining traditional Arabic calligraphy with modern and contemporary art, Zahra has managed to grasp the attention of people around the globe. Zahra continues to gain recognition as is now exploring the world of digital art along side traditional painting. Zahra hopes to show the world the beauty of the Arabic language.
